My very first Artist Alley experience is done, and it was loads of fun. Thanks to the handful of heroites who made it to the con, and welcome to a bunch of new fans as well!

Really great show, hope to do it again next year.

If you come out to see me at Artist Alley in the future, here’s what to look for….

Rough Mondays: Vacation Deflation

by Hero Business C.E.O. on April 25, 2011 at 12:22 pm
Posted In: Blog, Rough Mondays

Hey, heroites! In an effort to build some more content and discussion, I thought I’d start a new feature I’d like to call “Rough Mondays.” Because after the relaxing weekend, aren’t Mondays kinda rough?

Here, I’ll be sharing some preliminary rough sketches, characters designs and whatever “behind-the-scenes” goodies  I can dig up.

First up: the preliminary sketch to the very first “Coffee Break.” After returning from a short hiatus, I wanted to do a piece where a character returned from vacation. I redrew Bravado several time, to get him looking haggard and off-kilter. I also wanted the whole staff to greet him, as a nice re-introduction to readers.

So, heroites, let me know if you’d like to see anything specific for “Rough Mondays.”

New Mutants a la Walko

I hope to get a few pieces done to put up for sale at Boston Comic-Con. Here’s one I just finished: the “classic” New Mutants.

One of the things I love about these characters is how well they are designed (especially the original five). Their facial features, ethnic backgrounds, hair and heights are varied and unique… so they have a “look” to them. It’s so indelible, that when artists draw Roberto too tall or Sam’s ears too small… it just seems “wrong.” Bob McCloud REALLY put some great thought into designing them.

Boston Comic-Con is Coming

Just a reminder, The Hero Business will be making its Artist Alley debut at Boston Comic-Con, April 30th and May 1st. If you’re going, please stop by and say “hello.”

+ I’ll have some Hero Business art pieces, sketches, and some sneak peeks at some upcoming strips.

+ I’ll also be selling the first Hero Business Collection for $5, with a Boston Comic-Con limited edition slipsheet! (This extra insert features “rough draft” sketches of The Hero Business characters never seen online.)

+ PLUS, more Hero Business products for sale — like test tube plexiglass shots, the Hero Upgrade magnet kit and Hero Business mugs.

+ I’ll also be selling prints of my artwork, from my most popular non-HB work (as seen on DeviantArt)

+ PLUS, I’ll be doing commissions and sketches, too.

And remember, if you can’t make it to the show, you can still order the Boston Comic-Con limited edition collection online at Storenvy. Stop by and browse the Gift Shop.
