Rough Mondays: Retro Wonder Girl

Sigh. With the impending DCNu in September, I’m feeling a bit nostalgic for some of the awesome versions of these characters. And with no sign of Donna Troy in the DCnU, it looks like she may be gone completely. This weekend, I sketched out the first Wonder Girl in her fabulous mod costume, designed by Nick Cardy.

Come back to us, Donna Troy!

Rough Mondays: Legend of Bill

Gearing up to do a guest comic for the very-funny “Legend of Bill”, just getting a handle of the characters. Here’s an initial sketch of Gina and the Dark Queen….

I have a few caption ideas….. still bubbling…

Rough Monday: Buffy

I took part in a charity auction a few months ago, and was trying to decide what kind of piece to donate. I thought “Buffy: The Vampire Slayer” would be a good choice, with some mainstream appeal for would-be bidders. So I started doodling…

It was one of those instances where things came together quite quickly, layout/concept-wise. I’m a HUGE Buffy fan, and I wanted an iconic image to sum up the series and the character. The idea of Buffy blithely staking out (no pun intended) an about-to-rise vamp seemed like a dead-on (no pun intended) scene from seasons 1-3. It’s creepy, and funny, with a little bit of attitude. That’s our Buffster.

So, here’s the final…. with actually VERY little alterations (the undead hand is a little more lethargic in this one):

I love it when a plan comes together!

My DC and Marvel Ideas up on Gamma Squad

The Gamma Squad thought it would be especially interesting to talk to webcomic creators – especially those who have written about superheroes – and asked for their thoughts on Marvel and DC webcomics – and what they would pitch if offered the chance.

They asked me to weigh in. So what would I pitch? Head on over to Gamma Squad and find out!

Calling All Heroites! I’m Accepting Guest Strips.

Hey guys,

I’m just winding down the second storyline of The Hero Business. And after that, I’ll be gearing up for the third storyline.

In between storylines, I do done-in-one “coffee break” gags. I thought it might be fun to run some guest strips, too, in the same vein. If anyone would like to submit, please let me know. Of course, I’ll provide a link and blurb to support your own work.

Here’s a few “rules”:

1. Read the ABOUT page and a few ‘Coffee break” gags to get a feel for the strip.

2. Please keep artwork to fit 740p wide x 760 p high. It can be half that height if you want to work in strip format (740 p x 380 p )

3. Please do NOT use Superman, Wonder Woman and the like. Please DO be encouraged to make up parody characters….. for example, my Batman-like character is Nocturnowl. And I have a sexy Brazilian-style Wonder Woman named Glamazon.

4. have fun!

Send me an e-mail if you are interested. I’m looking to run some guest comics in August/September while I take a summer vacation. ; )

thanks!

– Your Hero Business C.E.O.
