Hello, Heroites!
Last week’s homage guessing game was pretty popular, so we’re returning for another round… and increasing the difficulty.
For this week’s “What If?” themed “The Line Is Drawn,” I’m doing a mash-up of a famous comic book team with a television series. Here’s part of the cover homage piece:
Correctly identify both:
1. The title and issue number of this homage AND
2. The television series / comic team mash-up.
E-mail your guesses (please do not post below), and for the first person to identify correctly, I’ll do a pencil sketch of any character of your choosing!
Get the guessing begin!
The cover of “Cry Malefactor!” serves as this week’s comic.
Thanks to everyone who played my “Rough Monday” cover homage guessing game. We had a few winners who have been notified by e-mail, each guessing correctly:
The homage cover for The Hero Business Collection #3 is Superman (second series) #2 by John Byrne, originally published in 1987. Quite a memorable issue… where Lex’s clues lead to the inevitable conclusion that Clark Kent must be Superman…. and Lex dismisses this outright, as he cannot fathom Superman pretending to be human.
I really wanted a Lex-parody cover for our “Cry, Malefactor!” story … and this one fit quite nicely, hope you enjoy! Also, give yourself a cookie if you recognize the tagline in the indicia box! ; )
Be sure to “like us” on Facebook, where I’ll post the winning pencil sketches, and share some other exclusive sketches that will only be seen on the Facebook page!
I’ll also be attending Boston Comic-Con again this year on April 21-22, since it was such a great show last year. If you’re there, stop by to get sketches, Hero Business merch or just to say “hi!” If you want to get a commission, be sure to e-mail me before the show.
So, did you guys enjoy our little pencil sketch contest? You wanna see more of this type of thing? Let me know!
For this week’s Rough Monday, I’m sharing part of the cover of The Hero Business Collection #3, collecting the “Cry, Malefactor!” storyline. I’ll unveil the full cover Thursday.
Let’s make this fun… regular readers know every issue has been an homage to a famous (or semi-famous) comic book cover. And this one is no exception. So… the first person to correctly identify this cover homage by e-mail: I’ll provide a pencil drawing of any character of your choosing!
Hints: 1. It’s a cover from the 80s 2. from a famous comic artist.
Let the guessing begin!
Double page bonus comic this week!
I think the last page needs one of these.
I just didn’t have the heart to make you guys wait a week between pages 18 and 19. And, this brings our epic third storyline, “Cry, Malefactor!”, to a close. It’s also the half-way point for what I consider “season one” of The Hero Business!
As I’ve previously mentioned, I like to plant little clues along the way to reward observant readers. Demonatrix has been previously mentioned in “The All-New, All-Different Bravado” as well as earlier in this very story arc. Interesting that Parker’s mom has got some history with our cast, hmm?
And, of course, this reveal was set up earlier in this storyline as well when Malefactor interviewed at Infernal Enterprises.
And, in “Orientation,” Louie’s dialogue set up the Infernal Enterprises connection. It pays to read and reread here at The Hero Business! ; )
Our next storyline is titled “Frenemy Mine” and it focuses on Morgan and Glamazon’s unique relationship. In the meantime, there’s some new coffee breaks to enjoy!
Hope you guys are enjoying the comics and the storylines…. and if you are, spread a little word-of-mouth marketing! ; )
This week’s comic is going to be a little late. Work has been a bit nuts and I have an out-of-town video shoot for a series of webisodes I wrote for a client. That just kiboshed my Thursday update. Look for this week’s comic over the weekend, a coupla days late!
In the meantime, you can get your Walko comic fix over at CBR’s “Comics Should Be Good”, where they’ll be running my piece for this week’s “The Line IS Drawn” on Thursday. I hope y’all like it as much as I do!
Here’s a very small part of this week’s “The Line Is Drawn”…
Can you guess who these guys are? Find out Thursday!
Poor Dr. Malefactor. Will he ever get any super laser deathray action? That’s twice he’s missed out now.
